The real story

I'm not teaching from an ivory tower.

I've spent 20+ years in sales and business development across more sectors than most people work in a lifetime. Retail. Banking. B2B. Consumer sales. Corporate sponsorships. Real estate. Property management. Marketing. Visibility. Photography. Multimedia production. Each one different. Each one confirming the same thing.

I hold a Master's in Mass Communication from the University of Florida (focus: Social Media) and a Bachelor's in Business Management and Organizational Leadership. Which is a long way of saying I've spent most of my adult life studying how people communicate, how organizations grow, and what actually makes businesses run.

I've climbed corporate ladders. I've led teams and managed people. And I've intentionally climbed back down more than once, because it turned out I was better at selling than babysitting. Also turns out selling paid better.

Real proof of concept

The Etsy shop I basically ignored and what it taught me.

In November 2021, I opened an Etsy shop as an experiment. Set it up. Listed some products. Then walked away. Not as a strategy. Just as life. I was busy. You know how it goes.

That first year: $108.96. Thrilling.

Then in 2022 it jumped to $9,648.72, most of it in Q4, including $6,402.44 in a single month. November 2022 apparently decided to clock in for both of us.

Look at the table. The decline after 2022 is the most important data point. Sales dropped every year. Not because online selling stopped working. Because I stopped showing up. Passive income is not actually passive. I accidentally proved both sides of that equation.

Could the shop perform better with actual attention? Absolutely. It's probably sitting on my mental to-do list right next to the 60,000-plus unread Gmail messages I'm definitely getting to someday.

I'm not an Etsy expert. I'm someone who made real money online by accident and is now building on purpose for the first time. That distinction matters.

The real human behind this

West Virginia roots.
Florida life.
Emotionally built for sweater weather.

I was raised in a tiny town in WV with full country girl roots, but mentally I'm pretty sure I was designed for NYC. Somehow I ended up living directly on the equator in Florida instead. Three seasons here: hot, hotter, and hot as hell. Then for about seven collective business days spread across three months, Floridians put on boots and pretend it's winter. I want snow strictly for aesthetic purposes. Look at it, play in it, immediately return to climate-controlled comfort. Important distinction.

I've been in Florida since 2005. Everything that matters most happened here. College. Marriage. Babies. A life that's loud, chaotic, funny, exhausting, and fulfilling and exactly what I'd choose all over again.

Married 17 years (together for 22) to the most genuinely supportive human I know. He's calm where I'm chaos. Practical where I'm impulsive. He makes me laugh daily. I drive him crazy daily. Balance for the win.

Queen B in a full-blown boy mom household. Two boys who have made it very clear that Minecraft is a legitimate life skill and Mario Kart is absolutely a contact sport. Between school pickup, sports, vacations, kayaking, and whatever new adventure we decide on next, we are Busy AF over here. Which is exactly why this exists.
